Hearing Costs

A Petition Document has been filed to hold a public hearing by the Joint Bartholomew/Shelby County Drainage Board to make the lower end of Haw Creek through the City of Columbus a Regulated Drain under the jurisdiction of the Joint County Drainage Board.

The Signers of the Petition will be responsible for the cost of notifying all the property owners in the watershed, including those portions of the watershed in southern Shelby County. It is estimated that there are 7900 property owners in the Bartholomew County and Shelby County portions of the watershed. It is estimated that the cost of the hearing will be:

1)  Cost of materials, printing hearing notice and labor to fold the letters, insert them into the envelopes and seal them = $2000

2)  Postage for bulk mailing the Notices = $2500

Total Estimate = $4500 (rounded to $5000, conservatively)

Does not include, if needed, publishing a legal notice in The Republic, posting in the watershed or rental of a facility to hold the hearing.
