Petition Proposal

A Petition has been filed with the Joint Bartholomew/Shelby County Drainage Board to have Haw Creek as it flows through the City of Columbus declared as a Regulated Drain under the responsibility and authority of the Joint County Drainage Board. A Public Hearing will be held on July 20, 2015 to allow members of the Joint Drainage Board to receive public input before determining the necessity of having the Creek established as a Regulated Drain.

The point of beginning of this designation is located near near the NE corner of Sec. 5 of T9N-R6E and continues southerly approximately 6.2 miles through the City to its terminus in the East Fork of White River near the NE 1/4 of Sec. 36 of T9N-R5E.

The Hearing will be held once the following has been completed:

1)  The Joint Drainage Board Staff, located within the County Surveyor's Office, can research and confirm the boundaries of the Creek's approximately 37,300 acre (58 sq. mile) drainage basin including portions extending into Shelby County.

2)  A time and place for the Hearing to be held has been set for July 20, 2015 at 6:30 pm in the Columbus North High School Auditorium.

3)  At the considerable expense of the Petitioners, a First Class Letter must be mailed to the approximate 7900 property owners in the drainage basin, including Shelby County, notifying them of the purpose, time and place for the Hearing.
